Artistic aspirations usually seem deluded, the risk of failure is high, the returns usually low, the mental effort and time needed to achieve much are higher than a lot of things, it might have beneficial therapeutic effects but it is solitary and can become quite draining, embarrassing, disappointing and time consuming and often ends up with artists being pressured into trying to make art they don't really believe in, which is usually quite poor and kind of removes the appeal.
But then art in general is a type of delusion, it's making things look like things that they are not, maybe that is a problem.
But the reason we like art is because that's what consciousness is, taking in stimulation and using it to build a world out of, it is a creative process, what our senses take in may be accurate, but the world we build with that information deviates from that an awful lot, we blur things out, sharpen others, we build patterns and assign meanings and clump things together, understanding the world at all is a creative somewhat artistic process and atleast from a strictly materialist perspective it's inaccurate and basically a lie.
The problem is, what sort of lie are we looking for?
Maybe I should just go and read some existentialist philosophy.
